My Story

I am alive today because of my annual mammogram.

At the end of December 2020 during my annual mammogram, a mass was detected. On January 11, 2021 I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). I hit the lottery with one of the most aggressive of breast cancers! It was an 18-month journey of chemo, lumpectomy, radiation and chemo pills. I will have maintenance transfusions once every 6 months for 5 years.

But what if I had not had insurance or money to get my annual mammograms? With this aggressive cancer, I might not here today.

Pledge The Pink is a 10 mile per day, 3 day walk to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and mammograms. I want to do my part to ensure that no woman dies of breast cancer because they could not afford a mammogram or treatment.

The average cost of a mammogram without insurance is $80 to $100. (source: https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/3d-mammogram#cost-without-insurance).

If 2 people donate $50, that is 1 mammogram. If 4 people donate $20, that is 1 mammogram. If 8 people donate $10, that is 1 mammogram. If 16 people donate $5, that is 1 mammogram. The point here is that of course I would hope you would donate as much as possible – no amount is too small!

Won’t you help me with my goal of 50 mammograms – that’s $5,000. I know that is a hefty goal, but if we all work together we can reach that goal again in 2023!
