My Story

I lost my grandmother to breast cancer when I was very young. At the time, I didn’t understand what breast cancer was. I only knew that I would never have the chance to know the kind and gentle woman my parents loved so dearly—a woman whose influence touched our family in countless ways. I was five years old when she passed away.
Now, as a grandmother myself, I often think about all that she and I missed because her life was cut short. At the same time, I am encouraged by how far we have come in the fight against this devastating disease and by the hope that research continues to bring to patients and their families.
This fall, I will join a dear friend and breast cancer survivor in the Pledge the Pink three-day, 30-mile walk. We will walk in honor of survivors, in memory of those we have lost, and in support of everyone still facing this disease. Over my 67 years, that list has grown far too long.
If you’re able, please consider supporting breast cancer research by sponsoring one of us. Every donation helps move us closer to a future where more families have the chance to make memories together—and where our steps today help lead to tomorrow’s cure.
