My Story
My why. My grandmother passed away in January of 1994 after a long hard fight with breast cancer. I honestly can’t remember her ever complaining. She went through many many chemo and radiation treatments and some new experimental type treatments also. Since I lived next door (across the field…. we are country folk) I remember being there to help her when she was to weak to bathe herself, when she needed help cleaning the wound from the mastectomy, or even helping with the laundry. On good days, we would spend time in the living room corner, embroidering or sewing quilt squares together(my quilt was big enough for a babydoll), playing in the back yard, and the best times were camping at LBL. As her cancer progressed she still remained strong and so courageous.
Nine-years ago I joined a friend along with about 2000 other “friends” and participated in my first breast cancer walk. Had to raise $2,300, which I felt was harder than walking the 60 miles. After being apart of such a large event with so many people supporting the same cause and having the same goal…. A WORLD WITHOUT BREASTCANCER, I was hooked. It’s so hard to explain the whole experience within the Pink Bubble.. You laugh, you cry, you cheer one another on, to keep going..you got this… The testimonies from those that have benefitted from our fundraising. Whether it was for a mammogram, breast health education, a treatment, support group, you begin realize you are making a difference. So we must continue to pull together and beat this monster. Please consider giving a donation. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
