My Story
I participated in Pledge the Pink walks in 2021 and 2022 with my team Sister Squad. We collectively decided to take a break in 2023 and 2024 for a number of logistical reasons, but plan to walk again in the future. When I discovered I could still fundraise without participating in the walk I was all for in! I believe in the Pledge the Pink organization and the work they do to disperse fundraising dollars to qualifying breast cancer screening, treatment, and research programs across the country. Because participants pay a registration fee to cover operational expenses and fundraising is not required to participate in the walks, all funds raised are able to be dispersed to these programs.
I began doing breast cancer walks and fundraising for breast cancer organizations many years ago, as so many people I love are affected by the disease. I needed to help in some way. In the past 5 months a former “walk” teammate was diagnosed for the second time, and both a new friend and a long time friend were diagnosed. It breaks my heart, and I can’t just sit by and watch it happen again and again without doing something.
I fundraise to honor the amazing survivors in my life: My mom Nancy, my mother-in-law, my aunt, my “sisters” Shannon, Tara, Julie and Meredith, my friends Carly, Angel, and Laura, and all who have survived, and succumbed to, breast cancer. I also fundraise for all the women and men who don’t have the resources for screening and treatment. I am dedicated to doing all I can, for as long as I can, to fight this terrible disease and to help those going through it. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting me in this fight.
