My Story
My first Pledge the Pink weekend on Fripp Island, SC October 21st-23rd 2022 was FLA-MAZING! Thank you to all my donors for 2022 – I raised $2,850! Our team, New Kids In The Flock raised $13,524 (WOW – not bad for a bunch of Newbies who didn’t start fundraising until September 2022 so all that in 2 months!) and the grand total raised by all the Flock-stars for 2022 was $715,278.58! The weather was perfect, the walking courses on three different islands were filled with beautiful beaches, lots of deer, amazing houses on Habersham Island and everywhere we went we met amazing people!
Happy to report, I am signed up for the 2023 3 day 33 1/2 mile walk (you read that right…they added 3 1/2 miles on Sunday to make it a true half marathon!), October 20th-22nd on Oak Island in North Carolina. 32 days and counting! My training living in Daytona Beach is definitely harder than last year…the heat & humidity is no joke and living in a brand new community…SHADE is not readily available!
One of my earliest memories as a child was learning Grandma Bessette had breast cancer. That was 50+ years ago…Grandma went on to have chemo and go into/out of remission three times over the next 20+ years before she succumbed to this awful disease. Since then, Mom has also had breast cancer (also a survivor and 81 years old) and so many friends/family as well. I am blessed to not have heard those scary words and am happy to be joining the fight along with 1,499 others through Pledge The Pink to find a cure.
Please join me/our team “New Kids In The Flock” and make a donation! Even though only 4 of the 11 of us who walked in 2022 are no longer “Newbies”, we’ve recruited 4 Newbies of our own for 2023!
