My Story
We are two of the four Altieri sisters- Liz Altieri and Lynette Altieri Mills. We carry the ATM mutation. Our sister Nicki lives in California and is unable to join us but will be walking with us in spirit!
We have a strong family history of breast cancer. Our sister Angela was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 at age 40 and died of metastatic cancer in 2005 at age 50. Our mom, Marilyn, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 41 and died at age 66 of heart damage related to the radiation treatment she received in 1970. Our father, Domenick, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 79. After a mastectomy, he took Tamoxifen for the rest of his life.
We have done the Komen 60-mile, 3-day walk twice in the past – in 2006 and 2016. We are excited to join the Pledge the Pink 30-mile, 3-day walk this year for the second time in honor of Liz’s 70th birthday and retirement.
Please consider supporting our walk. If you want to learn more about the Pledge the Pink Foundation, check here https://pledgethepinkfoundation.org/ They are a nonprofit public charity dedicated to funding breast cancer screening, treatment, outreach, and research. They provide funding for free mammograms, medical assistance, and outreach services to the people who need it most and too often are lost in a system of endless paperwork. They distributed $579,396.93 across the US in 2023!
