My Story
This one is for you mom!
As a two-time breast cancer survivor these multi-day walks are very personal to me. This one…this year… takes on a different meaning to me. This will be my 7th event to participate in and my 1st event to do without my mom. My mom was my biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader and I lost her in March of this year after a courageous 15 month battle with inflammatory breast cancer. My mom was a fighter. She had faced cancer once before and won. She was a 37 year breast cancer survivor when she once again was diagnosed with breast cancer. I walk for her. I walk for me. I walk because I don’t want anyone to hear the words “you have cancer”. I walk for those who are unable. I walk because I can.
Did you know that $100 funds a mammogram? For every $100 I raise, I get to place a plastic pink flamingo in the annual Flocks for Love display at the finish line. Pink the Pledge Flocks of Love has held the Guinness World Record for several years and we are hoping to shatter that record this year. The goal is 5,000 flamingos to represent 5,000 people who will be able to receive mammograms during the scariest 15 minutes of their lives.
Any amount helps! Pledge the Pink is coming up fast. It is the last weekend in October. Donations need to be made by October 15 to count toward my goal. Thanks for your support!
