My Story

My story begins with my grandmother who died from breast cancer the year my first son was born. She had been diagnosed 5 years before and had a mastectomy. However, as way too many stories go, the cancer came back. I knew she was sick, even though she tried to hide it from me. I hoped she would survive long enough to meet her great grandchild…she didn’t. I had never known anyone with breast cancer before my Grams, but now I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the victims.

This is my first walk with Pledge the Pink – 30 miles in 3 days. For those of you who know me, I need 3 days to walk 3 miles, let alone 30. I can’t change the story of those already affected, but I can help change it for my daughter, nieces, future granddaughters, future nieces. So I will walk. I will walk in honor of those loved and lost. I will walk for those I love who are fighting the good fight. And I will walk for my future.
