My Story
Over the years, I have participated in 16 Susan G. Komen 3-Day 60-mile walks. Shortly after my first walk, I received the shocking news that my sister, Lynn, had fourth-stage lung cancer. I happened to be at a post-walk celebration with fellow team members when I received the news. My Betty Boobs team members offered me great support during this difficult time. I lost my sister a few months later. I did each of the following walks in her memory and for other team members who had lost their loved ones from breast cancer and for the strong, brave survivors of breast cancer.
Each of those walks was quite challenging – the training, the physical challenges, the fundraising, and the commitment to this most worthy cause. As I have grown older, my body is not as equipped to handle 60 miles in three days; however, Pledge the Pink, which is about half that number of miles, seems more achievable. The cause remains the same to create awareness and commit to doing my part in the fight against breast cancer. I’m looking forward to this new and exciting journey.
