My Story
What would you do if your daughter, your sister, your best friend, or your wife found out she had breast cancer? Or your son or brother– men get breast cancer too. What would you do if the cancer had already advanced significantly because she did not get a mammogram? And, what if the reason she did not get one was because she couldn’t afford it? ….Many of us have health insurance and the preventative option of getting a mammogram for free or close to it. Unfortunately, many people do not have the coverage. I am walking for those people.

This is my second year at this event. Again this year I am also walking with my sister, Dawn, on behalf of the two Survivors in our family (and one who did not); their tenacity and bravery is an inspiration to us all. Last year I was filled with pride to be part of the crowds of brave people: Survivors, colleagues (including the firefighter pictured with me on this page), friends, and family members–including a son who pushed a wheelchair with his mother, quite weak from chemo, on all three days. He pushed her all 30 miles in full firefighter gear. I can spare a few blisters over 3 days to help others who may not have such an advocate.

The mission of the Pledge The Pink Foundation (PTP) is to provide breast cancer screening, treatment, and research. All funds must be designated for one of these activities: mammograms, biopsies, clinic trials, research labs, and diagnostic equipment.
