My Story
As I type this, it is July 10th, and in a short 103 days I’ll be starting my 4th Pledge the Pink event in South Carolina, and my 12th yearly multi day breast cancer walk in a row.
As much as I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones— and challenging this old body, I wish we weren’t still walking—but were instead celebrating a cure. I’m humbled to my core with the support you’ve all given me over the past 12 years, and I’m hoping I’ve not ‘worn out my welcome’ as I come back this year. Once again I’m asking for your support— emotional and financial—to help me do what I can to help find a cure, or to radically change the treatment protocols given to the 1 in 8 who will hear the words “ you have breast cancer”.
This year I have been blessed to have 2 dear friends who are also SOC’s (sisters of choice) who have shared the challenges they’ve faced after all the medical procedures are completed and they learn what a new ‘normal’ will begin to look like. Never have I wished more that I could have a magic wand to erase the challenges and pain they’ve gone through, but their grace in handling it all has strengthened my resolve to keep walking as long as I’m able.
As you know the names I carry on my cards are a mix of every gender, race, religious belief, sexual orientation and age— if you have breasts, you or someone you know and love are at risk. In the last 11 years you’ve helped me raise over $56,000.00 — the smallest donation has been $2.00 and the largest has been $500.00–so trust me when I say that no donation is too small or too large— they ALL mean more than you’ll know, and inspire me to keep walking.
If you’re able to help once again please follow the link above and make a donation—and as true as it’s been the past 11 years it will be once again—from the bottom of my heart and soles of my tired feet I thank you!
