My Story
This is my first Pledge to the Pink. I’m walking for my mom & best friend, Jane McGill Pruett. She was a 43 year survivor of breast cancer. She’s my hero!
Mom was there for me from Day 1 through every inch of my life. She was there for the good and right by my side for the bad. She gave me her shoulder to cry on so many times I can’t count. She stood by me, stood up for me, came to my rescue. She supported me, loved me, argued with me, held my hand and carried me. She was my absolute best friend my whole life. I talked to her every single day of my life. She was there for both my kids and still is even in death. She was my hero, my mentor, my example of how to tackle life on the ups or down. She was the best person I know. She sacrificed so much for me and all of her kids and grandkids. She was a breast cancer survivor for 42 years! She survived the depression and WWII. She lost loved ones in the war. She taught me to overcome, to be independent, to love my husband because I want him, not because I need him. She taught me what the most important things in life are and what doesn’t matter. She taught me to stand up for myself even if I’m the only one standing. She’s the most amazing woman I’ve ever known. I don’t know how I’m doing life without her now, but I suppose it’s because she prepared me for it. I miss her so much that it physically hurts some days. The day she left this earth was the hardest day of my life, but she was thrilled. She knew where she was going. When I asked her about it, she replied that I’ll know one day with the biggest smile on her face of all! God, I miss her.
I am proud to walk in her honor and help raise funds for breast cancer.
