My Story
Hi there, I’m Jackie. I’m passionate about fighting breast cancer. Since 2015, I have been doing walks with Avon 39, City of Hope and Pledge The Pink with one objective: TO END BREAST CANCER. While tremendous advances have been made in the treatment and prevention of this disease, the fight is not over until we end it. I fight because it’s personal.
When I was a young child, I learned that I would never meet my great grandmother because she died from Breast Cancer back in the 1960’s. I was shocked because she was young by today’s standards. This sad news was even harder to process when I learned that I could inherit the gene that gave her Breast Cancer, and ultimately killed her. Every time someone mentioned Breast Cancer, I would think of her. Since then, I have learned that countless friends, neighbors, teachers, and colleagues of mine have been diagnosed as well. This added fuel to the fire, and I knew I had to get involved in the fight to end it.
Over the past 4 years, I have walked more than 100 miles and raised over $9,500 to fight Breast Cancer – that’s 95 mammograms! This year, Pledge The Pink has generously offered to donate proceeds to the nonprofit of our choice. I have chosen to support City of Hope, the premier cancer research and treatment facility in Southern California.
