My Story
In May 2008 I discovered a lump in my left breast.
At my first appointment with my oncologist, he stated that I had the good breast cancer. He said that having cancer was not good, but that I got a good one. The survival rate was very good.
I did have two surgeries, 35 radiation treatments, and took a hormone blocker for 5 years. I was indeed lucky. No chemotherapy.
My mom, at the age of 82, was diagnosed with breast cancer two years after I was diagnosed. Her cancer was different than mine, triple negative. She underwent a lumpectomy, lymph node removal, and radiation.
This is the 10 year anniversary of my moms diagnosis, 14 years for me.
I’m walking for all of those who have gone through breast cancer, and I’m walking for anyone that might some day get the news, you have breast cancer.
Through all the monies raised, all the research funded, and all the early detection, we truly have made a difference. It is my hope that some day, if you are given a diagnosis of breast cancer, that you get to hear from your oncologist, “it’s the good one”. I hope that the survival rate for all breast cancers is good someday.
Thank you for reading my story, and thank you for your donation. We can make a difference!
