My Story
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer on Jan. 2nd 22 years ago, I was fortunate to have the support and financial means to get through my diagnosis and treatments. However, not everyone is as fortunate as I am. Thanks to the incredible research, treatments, and support funded by organizations like “Pledge the Pink,” more and more people are surviving breast cancer and living full lives. That’s why I am once again lacing up my sneakers and joining the Pledge the Pink walk.to remember those we’ve lost, to celebrate those still fighting, and to give hope to those yet to be diagnosed.
The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer was discontinued a few years ago, and I have greatly missed participating in it. A friend of mine suggested “Pledge the Pink Walk for Breast Cancer,” so I jumped on board! This is a 3-day 30 mile walk which should be a fabulous experience. It will be extra special because I’ll be walking alongside my four closest friends. These women have stood by me through life’s ups and downs and continue to be a source of strength and joy in my life. This walk is momentous to me because not only am I marking 22 years as a breast cancer survivor, but I’m also celebrating my 60th birthday this year! It’s hard to put into words what these two milestones mean to me. When I think about it, though, gratitude, strength, and hope all come to mind.
It would mean so much to me if you would support the cause and me by making a donation to my fundraising page. Please let me know if you’d like me to add to my sign someone you’d like to remember or honor. Every dollar helps fund lifesaving research, patient support, and advocacy that makes a real difference.
Turning 60 and celebrating 22 years cancer-free reminds me just how precious every day is and how important it is to keep walking toward a future without breast cancer.
Thank you for helping me make that future a reality.
Jill
