My Story
My sister-in-law, Sharon, and I had a bucket list for us and our husbands. One item was to visit Aruba where the flamingo’s walk among us at the beach. We both loved beaches, flip flops and of course flamingos! Well we lost my brother to a heart attack in 2008, ok, the three of us can still go.. Until we lost her to breast cancer in 2014. She fought the hard fight for 2 1/2 years, doctors, treatments, you name it, she did it. Losing her was so hard! They left behind 3 children, 18, 20 and 24. I can’t imagine losing my parents at that age. It is so unfair to them!
I dream of a day women & their families no longer have to suffer from this disease. A day where no one needs to fear the call after their mammogram appointment, a day no one needs to decide if they should remove one breast, both breast or do nothing. I dream of the day families don’t have to watch their loved ones suffer in pain, hair loss, weakness or anything that relates to this awful disease.
I have wanted to do a Breast Cancer Walk ever since Sharon passed. So when I found out about this walk, Pledge The Pink, where an entire island is overtaken by flamingos it was a no brainer! This is the race for us! BEACHES & FLAMINGOS!!!
I can’t wait to be with 1499 women whose passion is walking for a cure to Breast Cancer and FLAMINGOS!
