LIVE Today Team Story — Why We Walk Together
I’m walking with Pledge the Pink not only as a breast cancer survivor, but as the founder of the LIVE Today Foundation — and I’m inviting you to walk with me.
Breast cancer doesn’t end when treatment ends. Nearly 40% of survivors develop lymphedema, a chronic, painful condition that causes swelling, infections, disability, and emotional distress. I live with this reality — and I see it every day through the women we serve.
The LIVE Today Foundation provides free compression garments to under-resourced cancer survivors living with lymphedema. These garments are not optional — they are medically necessary — yet they cost an average of $150 per set and are rarely covered by insurance. For many survivors, the choice becomes groceries or treatment. No one should have to make that decision.
Currently, LIVE Today receives an average of seven new garment requests each week. Survivors are referred to us by trusted organizations, including Susan G. Komen, Breast Friends of PA, the American Cancer Society, the National Lymphatic Network, grassroots breast cancer groups, and hospital and insurance case managers from private insurers such as BCBS and Aetna. Without garments, survivors face worsening symptoms, infections, loss of mobility, and profound emotional harm.
Low-income and minority women — already facing higher cancer mortality — are disproportionately affected, making this work a matter of health equity and dignity.
To date, LIVE Today has provided over 700 garment sets nationwide, with nearly 60% going to underserved minority women. As demand continues to grow, the foundation — currently operating largely as a one-woman effort — needs community support to remain sustainable.
