My Story

My grandmother was an amazing woman. Before I was born she found out she had breast cancer and went through a mastectomy. She was not the only person in my family to have cancer. I have it on both sides of my family. It was not a huge surprise during my junior year of high school when I found a lump in my breast. I had a lumpectomy and it was found to be benign. Before my grandmother passed, she had multiple different types of cancer, and she survived all of them. On the 5th anniversary of her passing, I decided I wanted to do something to honor her. I started fundraising and walking to bring awareness. I also started to collect names of those affected by cancer that were two degrees of separation from me and I decided to carry them with me on my journey. This year marks my 5th walk for cancer research, and I am honored to carry over 200 names of people that have fought cancer.
