My Story
Many of you know that I have been a dedicated participant in breast cancer awareness organizations and groups that support breast cancer survivors through wellness programs and friendly competition like Dragon Boat. I’d lost an aunt to breast cancer and had several close friends battle hard against this disease and I wanted to be there in spirit for them.
I never imagined I’d become a survivor myself.
Although my experience was different (and less terrible) than so many of my girlfriends experienced, it was still shocking, painful, and emotionally exhausting at times. And, though I kept both my diagnosis and treatment mostly private until I got to ring that bell, I relied on countless close friends for help with drop-offs and pick-ups for my kids, meals prepped by Dad when I just wasn’t feeling up to it, and so many snuggles and support from my husband when we learned what this diagnosis meant for us as a new and blended family.
This year, I’ve been invited by some of my most beloved girls to join them in the Pledge the Pink walk (10 miles a day for 3 days) to raise money to battle cancer on the frontlines, helping cash-strapped charities pay for screenings, treatment, and research.
If you’d like to support me, my girls (and my girls!) as well as other cancer survivors right here in South Carolina, I hope you’ll donate today. Thank you !
