My Story
This will be my 10th year Pledging the Pink! My grandmother had a mastectomy in her 40’s so we take every lump and bump seriously in our family. While we hope modern medicine would mean something less invasive for her in 2025, we don’t know. Many family members and friends have fought the fight against breast cancer. Personally, I had a suspect knot removed in 2010 and the time waiting for pathology was possibly the longest week ever. So, each year, we walk many miles over 3 days in an effort to raise money and awareness for those who are fighting or have fought.
My sister spent many years as an oncology nurse practitioner and landed in the breast cancer care arena at one point due to an assignment change. I still get chills when I think about the moment I inquired as to how things were going in the new specialty and her response was that things were good…she said her patients have a better chance because of the advancements in medicine in recent years. So, we can’t stop now!
Our team, The Cluster Flockers, is made up of 11 members, one who lost her mother in her teen years to the disease and 3 who have fought the fight and won! Huge thanks for supporting us as we walk to fund early screenings, research and care of breast cancer patients.
