My Story
A friend told me recently that he knew why I volunteered at all the schools, why I tried so hard to make meaningful memories with my kids, why my facebook posts were full of adventures waiting to be told. Because I didn’t get that time with my own mom and I was making sure my kids had the exact opposite experience. And he was spot on.
Every year I walk 30 miles in honor of my mom who left this earth way too early at the age of 42. I spend every day living a life she would be proud of because she wasn’t given the chance to live out her own. She was kind and thoughtful and caring. She was empathetic and listened well and gave the best hugs. She had a smile that could light up a room and an easy laugh that made you feel like you’d known her your entire life.
I walk for my friends that were diagnosed this year and have to endure treatment while still holding down jobs plus raising kids. I walk so they know we support them. I walk for your loved ones so that you can grieve. I walk so their memories will forever be a blessing. I walk so you remember to take of yourself and test ANNUALLY.
First thing, make the appointment. If you’re scared or nervous or need a hand to hold, my day is free for you. I will accompany anyone that needs a friend to an appointment. If you want to know how my surgery went when I had a preventative double mastectomy I’ll give you every detail you want to know. If you found out you carry the BRACA gene like I do, or you’ve been recently diagnosed, I’ll be the hug you need to get through this – which you will.
If you have $100 to spare (or $10 or $50 or $500!), you can help fund a mammogram for someone in need, and be the one that just may have saved their life. Please consider donating. $100 covers the cost of a mammogram for someone that can’t afford the cost themselves.
Together, we can end breast cancer.
