My Story
Thanks for visiting my Pledge the Pink page. You know me as JoAnn: adoring wife, loving sister, fun aunt, loyal friend, sassy soprano, Jeopardy! wannabe, CPA. On July 15, 2014, I got a new identifier: CANCER SURVIVOR. That was the day I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had lumpectomy surgery that fall, and went through 33 rounds of radiation therapy for 6-1/2 weeks. I found strength from countless family and friends – your prayers and positive energy helped me through the fight! This year I am celebrating my 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY as a survivor, and it’s time to take on a big challenge again.
I’ve done the Making Strides Walks for the American Cancer Society 3 times, the Avon 39 Breast Cancer walks twice, and 5 years ago I did this same walk, Pledge the Pink. This year I’m back and we’re walking on Amelia Island, Florida on October 18-20. I’ll be walking 30 miles over 3 days in honor of those currently fighting, those of us in remission, and in memory of those we’ve lost. I’ve started training this summer to get my mileage back up to walk those 30 miles. And I’ll be raising funds to crush breast cancer. This is where you come in.
YOU can help me crush breast cancer. Not only have I committed to this walk, but my goal is to raise at least $5,000. I hope I can count on your support! That $5,000 is so much more than a number. It’s about lives saved and improved, access to care, and critical research that could change history.
I need your help to reach my fundraising goal. Every little bit helps the organizations that will receive the funds. I’m sure I’m not the only one you know whose life has been affected by breast cancer. I was one of the lucky ones – if you can call having breast cancer lucky. Mine was found early through a mammogram; thus, it was very treatable. I want to help make mammograms and other services available to all women. This disease doesn’t discriminate, and it’s a disease that must be stopped. That’s why I won’t stop until I accomplish – and possibly exceed – my fundraising goal.
