My Story
October 14th-17th, I will be participating in my very first Pledge the Pink Breast Cancer walk. Within 3 days, we will be walking 30 miles on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Challenging to say the least, but nothing compared to those that have experienced all that comes with having breast cancer. Almost everyone has met or known someone who has been afflicted by this disease. For me it has been family, friends, neighbors, and parents of friends. I will be walking in honor of my late mother-in-law, Lenore Oliva. In 2019, we lost our warrior to this disease. Lenore was diagnosed with BRCA Triple Negative Metastatic breast cancer. She went through a grueling cocktail of chemotherapy treatments and then radiation therapy to follow. During her 3 ½ year battle, this woman NEVER complained. Her mantra was simply “It is what it is” and she moved forward with her fight. And a fight it was. This disease took just about everything out of her. She became extremely fatigued and emaciated but she kept on fighting while the cancer ravaged her frail body. During her diagnosis, she discovered that she carried the BRCA gene. She said that her boys should get tested, and then my children should get tested. The idea that this disease could prey on my girls is deeply concerning to me. It is my duty to bring awareness to this disease and to help fundraise to support those that become afflicted by it.

Early-detection pushes the breast cancer 5-year survival rate to nearly 100%. Mammograms are the best way to catch breast cancer early.
Every cent you donate here will be tax deductible. It’ll go straight towards a mammogram for a woman who can’t afford one.
Together, we’ll slice through red tape, and help our service provider partners fill the gaps — getting care to the women who need it most, and in the end, saving lives.
All donations are tax deductible to fullest extent of the law.
