My Story
Every year, thousands of people gather to walk in hope, in solidarity, and in bright bursts of pink to fight one of the most pervasive challenges of our time: breast cancer. Today, I invite you to join me in supporting Pledge the Pink, a celebration of courage, community, and compassion that transforms lives and inspires change.
I have been supporting the “pink cause” since 2001 after losing a friend and co-worker to breast cancer. In the course of fundraising for that first walk, I learned how widespread the disease was. And still is today. My own journey with breast cancer began in 2018 with a very early stage diagnosis….a lumpectomy, a little radiation and routine monitoring with bloodwork seemed to take care of things. Feeling like I was “in the clear” after over 6 years cancer free, I was shocked to find out I had a re-occurrence this past February. Again, it was caught early and all is well. I have chosen to incorporate a wholistic and metabolic approach to treatment in conjunction with standard of care medicine.
Fundraising through Pledge the Pink has the benefit of allowing participants to choose their own charity if they or their team raise $5000. I would love to hit that goal and identify a charity that supports a metabolic approach to treatment. Today these complimentary therapies are not covered by insurance and can be out of reach for many. I hope to make an impact in this area.
