My Story
It’s been a long time since I have walked a 5K. Now I am taking on a challenge from my dear friend, Denise, to do a 3-day, 10 mile a day walk for Breast Cancer.
I am sharing my story about my battle with Breast Cancer. I am a ‘thriver’. I didn’t think I had a story because in my memory I did so well. Which I did. But, I was not remembering some facts until I read my journal.
In March, 2022 I was diagnosed with 3 Negative Breast Cancer. I was shocked. (Please ladies, get regular mammograms!)
I had incredible support from my husband, our children, family and friends. A few months after I was diagnosed I realized I knew other people who had some form of cancer. I felt I had it easy compared to them. I had chemo therapy, radiation treatment and a lumpectomy. I had some side effects, but tried to stay positive. I walked a lot, prayed and listened to music. I didn’t want my family and friends to worry. I was in God’s hands. I had to learn to slow down. I fasted during chemo. I watched some recommended podcasts. It helped. I had some bad days and moments of depression.
It was amazing when I was be told I was ‘CANCER FREE’! That’s when I said, “No more wigs!”
I still had a few obstacles to go through. I had to discontinue Keytruda treatments as I was having a a bad reaction. Then, in the summer of 2023 I had pneumonia for 6 months. Just a few setbacks. Even though I thought I was having good days during that two year period, I now realize what really good days are.
This year, one of my daughters was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She doesn’t live near. Her boyfriend and friends near her have been her biggest support. She had a mastectomy and has been declared ‘CANCER FREE’. I also have a dear friend whose cancer has returned. These are both an inspiration to me. I know, even more, why I need to do this walk.
Being a cancer ‘thriver’. It’s a lifetime journey to be strong, have courage, and live each day knowing faith is stronger than fear.
I am asking for your support for such a wonderful cause. The money I raise at this event returns to Pennsylvania. Please help me reach my goal.
Thank you for your support.
