My Story

My 2nd Pledge the Pink weekend on Oak Island, NC October 20th-22nd 2023 was a wonderful repeat FLA-MAZING weekend. Thank you to all my donors for 2023 – I raised $3,050! Very proud of our team of 8, New Kids In The Flock for raising $17,819 and the grand total raised by all the Flock-stars for 2023 was $690k! The weather was perfect, awesome beautiful beaches, great food and the people of Oak Island really rolled out the red carpet for all the Flock-Stars for the weekend!

I am signed up for the 2024 3 day 30 mile walk , October 18th-20th on Amelia Island in Florida, which is just a little over 2 hour drive from Daytona Beach so looking forward to fellow teammates flying into Daytona Beach early and/or staying a few days extra after the walk to at Casa de Allen! Plus we’ll have a couple Jeeps at our disposal to drive up as you’ll never guess what 2024 theme is? That’s right, not only are we trying to kick breast cancer’s ass, but we are honoring the late, great Jimmy Buffett this year! One might say, living in Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach I should have access to plenty of Jimmy-related decorations, etc! As I’ve learned, training is definitely harder than when living in Illinois…the heat & humidity is no joke and living in a brand new community…SHADE is not readily available! But since Amelia Island temperatures run 5-6 degrees warmer than 2022/2023 walks I should be prepared!

One of my earliest memories as a child was learning Grandma Bessette had breast cancer. That was 50+ years ago…Grandma went on to have chemo and go into/out of remission three times over the next 20+ years before she succumbed to this awful disease. Since then, Mom has also had breast cancer (also a survivor and 82 years old) and so many friends/family as well. I am blessed to not have heard those scary words and am happy to be joining the fight along with 1,499 others through Pledge The Pink to find a cure.

Please join me/our team “New Kids In The Flock” and make a donation! Happy to say that 7 of the original 2022 11 of us are walking again plus all 3 Newbies from 2023 and we’ve recruited 4 more Newbies of our own for 2024!
