My Story
I am alive today because of my annual mammogram.
At the end of December 2020 during my annual mammogram, a mass was detected. On January 11, 2021 I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). I hit the lottery with one of the most aggressive of breast cancers! It was an 18-month journey of chemo, lumpectomy, radiation and chemo pills. I will have maintenance transfusions once every 6 months for 5 years.
But what if I had not had insurance or money to get my annual mammograms and to pay for the costly treatments? What if they hadn’t made progress in the last 10 years with the medications to fight this form of breast cancer? With TNBC being such an aggressive cancer, I might not here today.
My passion in life now is to help others to ensure that they can have the mammograms, treatments and support they need.
Pledge The Pink is a 10 mile per day, 3 day walk to raise funds to provide research, mammograms and other services in the fight against this cancer. I want to do my part to ensure that no woman dies of breast cancer because they could not afford a mammogram or treatment. Last year, with many thanks to those that donated, our team was able to donate over $11,000 to The Buddy Kemp Center in Charlotte to help others in their fight. I would love to be able to do it again in 2024.
I would sincerely appreciate having you join this journey with me by donating to my fundraiser. No amount is too small – every penny counts!
Thank you for your support!
