My Story

I fundraise for Pledge the Pink because they put all the money raised directly into the programs they support – supporting those in the battle. They are all volunteers, and the administration and walks are supported by sponsors! God bless the PTP office staff for the hard work they do purely out of the love in their hearts!

I am a survivor of breast & ovarian cancer, and I deal with recurring skin cancer. I have dealt with the fears, the treatment, the huge bills. I have witnessed friends, family and acquaintances in the battle – some beat it, some didn’t, all fought incredible battles. My heart breaks for each of them. My fundraising is to honor them and I walk to celebrate each of them – and their photograph goes with me.

THIS YEAR, 2026, I am dedicating my walk to Mrs. Wiggins, my senior cat. Last year was a rough year for us. I was unemployed 364 days (UGH!) and she had a tumor on her whisker pad. We knew it was a sarcoma, and my vet started preparing me to put her down. But I just couldn’t. Other than that thing on her face, she was a normal senior cat. I was battling the prospect of losing my house, and I just needed her to hold on for me to find work. November came her tumor was growing, and her brother, Mr. Tudball, suddenly couldn’t breath or get comfortable. He passed as soon as the ER vet pulled him from the carrier. After that I couldn’t bring myself put her down. I took money from my retirement to keep my home and cover bills for a few months. Then in December when Wiggins’ tumor started splitting and getting blood everywhere, I took her to the same ER vet that took such good care of me and Tudball. They had a new surgeon that removed the tumor, leaving as much of her lip as she could. She then referred me to a wonderful oncology vet that was working with a new treatment where they run a current through the tumor to open the cells then inject the chemo treatment. Opening the cells helps the tumor to absorb more of the chemo. After 2 rounds, there is no sign of the cancer. She is now more spoiled and sassy than ever and I call the gap in her lip her “Elvis curl”. I’m so blessed to keep her with me a bit longer.

Cancer has become all too common! We are all in the fight in some way, whether we know it or not. I have simply shifted from watching and occasionally donating, to advocating and openly fighting for resources. Resources that will sponsor research and programs that help individuals with rides, support, testing, and so many other things they need.

That is why I am asking for your support. Please help me to raise the funds to help those that are struggling to get through their battles with dignity and take care of their families. And to support the research that is seeking cures for every type of cancer.
