My Story

My name is Melisa Rogers and I am a breast cancer survivor, a warrior in pink. During my regular yearly checkup a couple of spots were discovered on my mammogram that needed to be checked out further. As we all know early detection is key. On November 5th, 2015 I received a call from my doctor letting me know that I did indeed have Stage 2 breast cancer. After getting a second opinion and many tests and procedures, my treatment began on November 25th, 2015. After undergoing 6 chemo treatments, I had a bilateral mastectomy on April 7th, 2016. On April 20th I was told that I was CANCER FREE!! I still had some treatments and surgeries to undergo, but we had done it, we killed the cancer.

I was very fortunate to have a very good insurance plan that allowed me to receive the care that I needed. I also had several mentors that were breast cancer survivors there when I needed a shoulder to cry on, gave me the encouragement to fight hard and mostly gave me hugs when needed. But the main thing that got me through this journey were my faith, my family and my friends, we all thank God for answered prayers. I try to give back when I can, by being a mentor to others and raising funds for a cure.
